Music and Wine in Italy

The Collio region of north east Italy, renowned for its fine wines, is a beautiful area with a fascinating history. From the small town of Cormons, where this holiday will be based, one is within easy reach of some of Italy’s most interesting, almost unknown, treasures. The Basilica in Aquileia with its vast areas of Roman mosaic floors, the ancient town of Grado, the white marble castle at Miramare near Trieste built by Archduke Maximilian, and the rare Lombard Temple in Cividale, a town on the River Natisone founded by Julius Caesar, who introduced wine to the region, are all fascinating places. We will hear an opera in Trieste’s lovely opera house and three chamber concerts given by I Solisti di Trieste, an ensemble of some of the finest musicians from Venice and Trieste, directed by Myriam Dal Don in local churches and Tartini’s house in Piran, Slovenia.
